Miss World visits disabled children in Nha Trang

Miss World 2008 Ksenia Sukhinova (C) and RAAS President Hoang Kieu (R) give li xi (money given to children for the Lunar New Year) to a boy at a center for disabled children in Nha Trang Friday
Miss World 2008 Ksenia Sukhinova Friday stopped at a disabled children’s center in the central town of Nha Trang, presenting the children with a total of VND65 million (US$3,731) worth of “lucky money.”

In her first charitable act as Miss World, Sukhinova and Hoang Kieu, president of Rare Antibody Antigen Supply Inc. (RAAS) group, gave a li xi (money given to children for the Lunar New Year) of VND500,000 ($29) each to 130 children.

Sukhinova said she didn’t know what to say to the children except to give best wishes and encouragement.

She said she believed they would become good citizens and contribute to society.

The Russian was welcomed with musical performances by the center’s residents and received hand-made gifts.

Sukhinova also took part in a gala titled “Television personalities meet Miss World” Friday night at the town’s April 2nd Square.

The gala was attended by famous Vietnamese singers, local TV personalities and their counterparts from other countries including South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Sukhinova on Thursday visited the National Television Drama Festival and the International Television Drama Fair held at Khanh Hoa Television’s headquarters.

She departed for Hanoi today and will spend four days in the capital handing over houses, gifts and money to the poor, and participating in cultural events.

Sukhinova arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, beginning an 18-day charity tour of Vietnam.

Miss World 2007 Zhang Zi Lin of China is expected to join the tour from January 12.
